Hey guys. Need some help with the winter beater....alternator problem

Well i have a 91 VW diesel Golf. At high RPM....which is not that high since its Diesel, anyway the batt light comes on and the lights go dim and all that crap. Then when I let off the gas everything is fine. Also at highway speed around 110 Km/h the light comes on and off every 10 seconds or so. All is fine when Im driving at low speed and RPM. Any ideas? Im thinking it may be the Voltage regulator. Or should I just swap alternators. By the way the battery is new.

Thanks

I'm only taking a stab in the dark here, but when is the last time you changed the belt? I'm assuming it's a serpentine. I'm wondering if it's slipping at higher speeds.

Interesting...probably not it, but check the condition of the belts anyway and double check on the tension. But it's probably something else.

You can get alternators tested for free at most parts stores.
I'd def recommend taking it in. Most of the time, they can even tell you what part (of the alternator) has failed.

If the alternator is out of the car, most Canadian Tires will test it for free. As well as the battery too.
