It will run low 15s stock , added a th440 4spd auto grand prix tranny with a 3.33 final drive ratio. Ported plenum, manifolds, intake, engine refresh , new gaskets, tune up stuff and paint painted the complete frame.

Pretty much a stock motor it pushes 150hp stock ,with a 4spd stick 85-86 V6s run a mid to low 15s , with my new tranny and mods I expect to match that.

Mid to low 15s? With a stick and V6? No offense- but that sucks- the car only weighs 2700lbs and is rear-wheel-drive. Hopefully your conversion will do much better...

Just getting an engine to prime running condition after its been beat on is a challenge in itself. If you can get the "magazine" numbers out of your car with out serious modifications, you've got a good start to modding.

not really..fixing is not the same as modding..why start slow?In his case..4.5(180HP),4.9(215HP),Nortstar V8, /or a small block will fit

For a 15+ year old car id say its pretty good im not looking into makeing it fast, your just pissed because it can take out almost all stock 3rd gens from 82-89 ,magazines rated the 85-86 v6 at a high 15 when people have proven over and over again that they can run low 15s stock the fastest fiero ever recorded was a 1985 GT which ran a 14.7

they are factory rated at 150hp, 87-88 135hp. A stock 350tpi GTA runs low 15s with 200+hp.

My stock 87 IROC was running mid 14's..bone stock with an empty catalytic converter case, and a 2.5" cat back..go the library and learn some more..For an engine swap thats pretty bad

You guys hear about a shop teacher that over a span of years made his students do work on his fiero? They bought a ferrari or some exotic body kit, built a new engine for it, cut the frame in half and extended it to match the body kit's length.

The end result was go fast european look alike car using good old american parts, cheap to maintain and pretty fast to boot...

how's that for a daily driver?

hehe now that car is owned by this guy who sells car stereos in Mississuga..The cars bondo panels are now bulging and getting out of shape..BTW the engine is just the V6 Fiero motor (2.8) and still slow as molasses..better than the 2M4(?) it replaced..He's selling it for $8000..but I doubt someone will even give him $1500 for it..lolol..

I knew 2 guys that had Fiero's when I was younger. One was an '84(?) 2M4 and the other was an '86 GT. They where the 2 biggest pieces of **** I have ever encountered, not including my GTA.

How does that have anything to do with what I wrote? Lol, i'd take a Civic over a Fiero any day of the week. They are poorly designed cars. Unless you own an '88. It was like GM decided to make a kit car from the corporate parts bin. It's just a shame they used all the ****ty parts........X-body suspension, 2.8L, whatever the 2M4's had, etc, etc.....

It's your car, you go ahead and enjoy it

You know nothing about the fiero at all , the civic is the most poorly built POS on the planet. The only thing that seperates the 88 from the others is the suspention. That x-body suspention your reffering to can out handle any civic and almost match any vette from that era, so take your head out of your ***.The 2.8l and tranny in the fiero is no different from any other GM car,in fact the only thing that seperates them is the fiero is mid engine.

I know a guy here in Brantford that has a later style Fiero GT with a TPI 350 in it. Cool thing about his is its not mounted transversly, like most V8 swaps, which mounts the motor 90 degrees off, so it faces left to right. He installed his using a transmission from an early 70s Olds Tornado, which uses a chain to connect the rear of the crank shaft to the torque converter.

Yes, yes......The Pontiac Fiero was the pinnacle of North American engineering. The engines are ok, if you don't mind the lack of performance. I was referring to the general integrity of the cars. The Fieros I have known both had cooling, wiring, body fitment, and other lame car problems. Nothing really out of the ordinary for anything built in the 80's. The problems just occured more frequently. I'd still take a Civic over a Fiero.

If you honestly think a pre '88 Fiero will outhandle or even match a Z51 'vette then you're a nut.

I'm not gonna bother with this thread anymore because I shouldn't have posted in it in the first place. It's your car, you drive it, you enjoy it. I couldn't care less.
