Exhaust questions

I'm trying to get an idea of how much coin its going to cost me to buy and install a catback for my car. I want a high flow converter, 3" to the muffler and 2.5" out. I have some nice tips right now that I assume could be re used. I want a slightly louder than stock sound but not too obnoxiuos. The bottom line is price. I got a quote of 700 bux for a flowmaster system but I Don't(can't) spend that much. What are my options? My car is up for emmissions and it barely squeeked by last time, so I expect to have to replace the cat this time around, plus the baffles in my muffler are gone.

I paid $500 Cdn. for a Hooker Catback - part # 16823 for engine codes G,F & 8.

Hermoff highflow 3 inch cat was $175 Cdn - cheapest available that day.

Cheapest way to go is to go to your local Part Source, NAPA or local parts store and get them to price out the Dynomax 3" intermidate pipe. It should be around $125 or so for just the pipe. Then buy a muffler of your choice and have an exhaust shop make up a set of exit pipes with the tips you want. You should be able to get the pipe, muffler, and everything for $300 or less.

You can buy the complete 2.5" Dynomax kit for around $300 from NAPA.
