Heater Core Went
Hey guys, the heater core went in my brothers 85 Z28. I was wondering if we could use any GM heater core or does the heater core have to be specifically from a Camaro. Also the blower motor for the heat.
Thanks,
Dustin

Unless you wanna have a really hard time hooking the hoses back up get the specific camaro/year heater core. My heater core is blown, I just bypassed it and am really regretting it this morning as its freezing, and after reading up about repairing it many mentioned how anything other than the exact model core that came out of the car can be a real dog to get back in cause of the close positioning to the firewall and placement of the holes for the hoses. $58 for a new one at CT I think. I wouldn't put a used one in either as you don't wanna have to be replacing it again anytime soon.
I did my heater core as repair number 2 to my car... number 1 was my brakes...
I came at it from underneath the dash and the hardest part was getting the 9-10 year old hoses off the heater core. For some reason my core had decided to fuse with the hoses or something. All in all it was fairly easy to replace once the hoses were off. At the time it was pretty cheap from GM too, just bought a replacement, a few hours later I was nice and toasty again.

It's not a ridiculously hard job, just time comsuming. It took me at least five hours one saturday last summer, although I took my time, took several long breaks when a buddy or two came over (or that blonde, had to stop working and chat. lol). Remember to disconnect your battery first though, since with your passenger side door open that long your domelight will be on for an awfully long time (sometimes blowing a fuse, which drove me nuts last year...).
