Depends on the cash I had..
If I had the same amount of cash... ie: Say $25,000 - $30,000 to buy a LS1-4th Gen or put into a 3rd Gen...
Hands down I would take the $20-30 G's and put it into my 3rd Gen...
Imagine what you could get for $20,000 on a 3rd Gen!!

Depends what condition your car is in now... If I could put it all towards performance upgrades I'd really want to mod my thirdgen and it'd be faster and handle better than any 4th gen I could buy but then again a 4th gen would be a newer car and still very sweet.

What I did was buy a half decent truck for about $5K cash so there's no bank payments. That way I can put money into the TA when I can afford it rather than have to make loan payments on a $25K 4th gen every month whether I can afford it or not.
As Revenue Canada just cleaned me out for about the price of a mint thirdgen I'm sort of relieved that I got no car loan to worry about.

Well, I had an 86 Iroc, brother owns it now, and my lady has a 96 TA. I gotta go with the 4th Gen, them things are just plain awesome.
Mind ya, my car has personal value so I will be a 3rd gen peep for many, many years to come.

With all due respect... and I say this sincerly with respect to the 3rd gen.
There is simply no comparison.
You can take a rip in my car anytime if you want to decide.
BUT, don't get behind the wheel if you don't have the cash. Trust me, it won't be fun living with that memory.

BTW, saw some damn fine 3rd gens this week.

I prefer the looks of the thirdgen, but the 4th is an awesome car. The LS1 cars are truly a blast. However I'm hearing of oil consumption issues with the LS1's. The LT1's have optispark and oil leak issues. I would say that overall they are better built, substantially more rattle and squeek free than our thirdgens. About the only thing I like more about my car is the style and there is room to work on the engine compared to the 4th gens(especially the LT1's).I wouldn't mind having an 98-2002 WS6 Trans am or firehawk to play with
