There's like death, taxes and rust so yeah - you allways have to worry about it.
It's a good idea to get it undercoated - you can take it to a shop and for about a $100 or so they will drill the rockers and doors as well as spray all the oil crap inside and under the car, under the hood, the engine bay etc.
How effective it is will depend on the condition of the vehicle now - if it's already rusted obviously spraying it won't fix that but it will slow down the deterioration proccess a fair bit during the winter.
My truck has been done every year - I drive it in the winter - it's a 91 and has no rust.
My TA was a daily driver for about 18 years although usually stored in the late fall. I think I might have put about four winters on it. I used to get it sprayed about every second year when it was being stored just to protect against rain and dampness generally. I got it sprayed every year when I was using it in the winter. That car has no rust and it's an 83 - so, IMO rustproofing is a good idea although it makes one hell of a mess.

yea spraying it will for sure protect it. However it is one hell of a mess. Another alternative would be to Por-15 it. Will cost about the same($100) for the materials and you'll have to do it yourself but you'll only have to do it once(supposed to last at least 15yrs) and it'll look amazing. This stuff is described as being a ceramic paint for looks and texture. Can't beat it really for rust protection.
POR-15 is actually the name of the company. But they name themselves after their main product which is a base rust inhibitor. Use that in conjunction with a top blackcoat and you'll be winning under carriage show and shine contests
