Insurance renewal time...

Anyone getting or have their insurance renewals yet???

I just got mine in the mail today. It's going up $40/month! I'm 25 and going to be paying $2000/yr through TD and I've never had a ticket!

Time to shop around again...

As you probably know there's an ontario insurance website that will provide you with an online quote as well some followup re putting you in touch with broker. I can't remember the site name but it was discussed not too long ago on here or on ccfbg.

mine went up 250 dollars, but the car is just a pleasure vehicle, which means that i can not drive it every day, never drive it to work, or even a mall. When i looked through my policy i noticed why it went up so much, this year they tacked a hi performance clause on to my policy, so i called the broker and asked what that clase is, they said because it wwas a sports car they added that clause to it, but it still can not be modified extensivley. Right now i am in the middle of trying to get my car in a class called street machine class. Which means that my insurance will go down, depending on my current appraisal, but there are a lot of restrictions with this class, no nitrous or superchargers to name a few, but i am allowed to modify the exhaust, and base engine untill my heart is content. The main part of this street machine policy is that the car has to be over 20 years old, and is not a daily driver.

Forget the Camaro... my wife's '97 Sunfire GT is almost as much per year NOW than my Avalanche.

The guy at GMAC insurance said that the new rating system looks at the total number of claims and severity against your type of vehicle (model and engine size).

This puts Cavs and Sunfires at the top of the list becasue they are one of the most popular cars and many people end up writing them off in accidents. Which means I pay for their mistake.

I'm paying about $400 per year for full coverage/limited usage on an 83 TA through Lant Insurance Brokers in Stouffville. The car is modded enough to void most standard auto policies I would think. The present policy allows modifications and the car was appraised at 15K based on replacement value of everything. Actually 17.5 because they consider tax as well.

Given the way insurers are conducting themselves lately I think if you had a serious accident resulting in maximum exposure on a standared auto policy the adjusters would try to void the policy if they discovered that you modded the car w/out advising them as to the change in the nature of the risk (to use their language).

They may or may not succeed but at the very least it would be a tactic to deny coverage initially and then beat you down so that you accept a smaller settlement.

They also expect a discount for settling with you rather than exercising their right to jerk you around for 5 years before paying out and they will proceed in the aforementioned manner even if it means leaving you in a schitty diaper for the rest of your life.

Lol.. don't get me started on the banks
