Alternator prices
I've been on the phone most of the morning with a bunch of parts places and dealers across the GTA. All the way from Mega City (in the west end) to Dom's in the east. The prices varied from $40 to 80 for a used one, right off a car at the wrecker (with 90 day warrany). Parts places wanted anywhere from $100 to 140 with exchange (I would assume these would be remanufactured units) 3 month to 6 month warranty.
Has anyone else found such a wide range in price?
Some of the parts shops said they were special order, (I'm pretty sure mine is a 100 amp unit as it came with full complement of power options)
Regardless, I couldn't wait any longer at the shop,( I have to get it out of there before the long weekend) so I've had one installed - $200 out the door. Yeah, I know it's a simple job, three bolts and a couple of nuts, but I can't take any more time off work before the weekend, so my wallets a bit thinner, but at least it's done.

The alternator in my truck mysteriously went out while I had loaned it to my brother for a week. Some car guy, he didn't even think that the grinding/howling/smoking alternator was a problem. Anyway, Carquest wanted $180+$60 for the core and Napa wanted $150+$50 for the core. 100 amp alternator with a two year warranty, looked like a decent deal to me. I picked up the Napa unit and had lil Jimmy up and running in half an hour (taking my time, chatting with the neighbor). Gotta love working on Chevy engines.
When I pulled the old one off I found little steel ***** all over my intake and beneath the alternator. The rear bearing managed to explode all over the place. I can't believe the damned thing still worked.

$100 including taxes for a 105 amp.He can probably give you a 6 month warranty or more.He can also make you a 140amp version for a bit more.Let me know if you still need one and Ill give you his number.

When I went through this a coupel years ago I thought (well in my eyes) the Bosch reman was the best deal........5 year warranty.....no more screwing around with others which only have like a 6 month or 1 year warranty (went through 2 of those others).....I dont knwo....in my eyes it was the best "deal" for me given what I use the car for.
