GTA exhaust system
Alright guys needing some help here....
I live in Toronto, Canada and am in the process of buying a new exhaust system. What I need from you guys is a favourable shop you guys have been too or can direct me too. Also, I need pricing. What could I get thats not overly expensive but doesn't cut the performance? I was thinking of getting 3" mandrel pipes, hiflow cat, flowmaster muffler (open to different brands), cutout and some nice dual tips. I have a guy that would sell me some blackjack headers but they don't have the A.I.R tubes. Could I cut the tubes off my stock manifolds and just weld them to the headers? They don't do much anyway right besides providing air or heat to the cat? Correct me if I'm wrong. How much do cutouts cost? (canadian prices) and where could I get one around here? Has anyone in my area heard of a place called Pipes? I've been told 3" would kill my flow or power. I'm not too worried about that considering it's only a 305 but I might as well get something I can transfer over to a 350 right? Anyway...if you guys have anything to add please feel free to shoot your opinions at me. This is going to be done VERY SOON as I need the car for the up coming May 24 weekend. Thanks!
PS. How much do Edelbrock TES Headers with y-pipe cost? (or just headers)

I'dd say just buy from Summit or Jegs. Even with the exchange and duty, straight to your house, it'll be cheaper than going to a local shop. I'm not knocking local business, it's just the truth. You want nice duel tips? If that's per side, buy a Hooker cat-back. If it's duel/single tip, buy a Flowmaster or Edelbrock catback. Anyone of these systems come complete with everything you need for a direct bolt-on swap. If you can get a friend to help, you could change it yourself. These will all sound great, but personally I'dd chose Edelbrock or Hooker, they both have stainless internals, with Edelbrock just coming out with a new muffler. Call to see if you can get it with the system yet.
As for headers, for Edelbrock's, expect to pay @ $300 for a complete kit, again, with everything you'll need. Although I'dd invest in a good set of Stage 8 or equivilent header bolts. And a set of header gaskets from Mr. Gasket or equivilent. Some copperseal or the like. They are a little pricey (@30+), but will last forever with no leaks.
All prices I quote are US $, so do the exchage before you decide. Call Summit (1-800-230-3030) or Jegs (1-800-345-4545) and they can answer all your questions and give you some prices.
Also, this is Ontario, it's only getting worse. Stay with a system for airtubes and such, you don't need to be hasseled from cops or the like. Half the cops don't even know what's supossed to be under your hood, just leave all your stuff hooked up - alot less hassels, especially for what your doing with your car - regularly street driven I assume.

You are 1 year away from your last E-Test. Wait until the car turns 20 then if you want, ditch the A.I.R. system and emissions system. Otherwise just leave it alone. It's too much trouble to even think about welding AIR tubes onto non AIR headers. Look at a set of edelbrock or hooker headers with AIR. For transferability to a 350, you might want to get the best bang for your buck but it will cost more. Its worth it performance wise to get the SLP 1 3/4" ceramic coated from the US. From Thunderracing.com they run almost $785cdn for the coated headers with shipping included. As long as they are stamped "Made in the USA" you won't have to pay import fees, just normal GST/PST as it comes into the country. Free trade is good as long as its from Mexico, US or Canada!
As for the exhaust, the mandrel bent stainless 3 inch would be nice. However with your 305 it might flow too much, I don't know enough about how exhaust flow hinders or improves performance to say what size pipes you should get. SLP does offer 1 5/8" headers for the 305 application.
As was stated above you can get a decent kit from flowmaster or edelbrock or even SLP. However, if you have cash to burn the Borla 3 inch full kit might be what you are looking for. It's 3 inch all the way back from the cat and has cut outs just before the muffler already on one of the exhaust tips allowing for an almost straight out exhaust. The cost from Performance Improvements when they had their spring sale on 2 weeks back was $1326 but i believe the regular price is almost $1700. I have yet to hear what it sounds like but it has got to sound amazing because of the cut out option it offers just before the muffler.
I was quoted at a shop here in Barrie for a full system installed with the SLP headers and Borla 3 inch stainless all the way back , hi-flo cat , fully installed at $2112 after taxes. It aint cheap!
