so heres the reason for this job...
The plastic clips that go onto the hatch that fit into the aero style wing are no longer being made by GM or infact anywhere.
So we were kinda stuck with a spoiler that couldent use it for anything. So we took it upon our selfs to figure out a better use for it. here it is..

I've seen urathane (sealant for windshields) used to hold on the sides instead of clips. Tape it in place till the urathane sets up. Works fine, can't tell at all.

If the reason the spoiler was sanded down to the rubber is due to small cracks, they will reappear with new paint and there is nothing you can do about it. I learned that the hard way.

well the first time we sanded it all down, thinking we can go to the dealership pick up the clips.. no problem.. well yes problem.. no more clips and we just figured lets play with this see what we can come up with. I think its nice. We are going to try to take it all down. We got bondo to of course.. make it look good and than paint. easy as that.

If there were cracks in the paint then they will be in the rubber wing. Just little tiny cracks but they will crack right thru the new paint again. It sucks but there is no way to fix it.

I prepped the stock wing just like you did a few years ago. Looked perfect right after it was painted but don't touch it. Body guy couldn't even get it on the car without numerous cracks showing up again right away. At least he didn't charge me for the paint. I was having a rear quarter painted due to a supermarket employee's mishap with a load of shopping carts. In the span of a couple of months, it looked no better than it did before it was repainted.

i like the cut down version of the wing. i think it looks good

HalfInchWrench

can you not lay down a layer of fiberglass to stop the cracks from reforming?

A thin layer won't stick and if you make it thick enough to support it's self, would be too big. I've spent many hours swearing at those wings. Why oh why could they have made them out of fiberglass . Can't repair that composite over foam over metal at all. I think the outer layer is neoprene or some other fancy rim injection plastic.

May not be a solution, but that looks like a pretty good idea.

That looks pretty good Dave.

Why the hell did GM make those spoilers out of the same stuff they make Nerf footballs out of? Mine looked like crap by the time I got rid of my GTA. It had developed a crack on one side that would ooze water for days after it rained or was washed.

bondo...that is the worst thing 2 use on that...i no u probly dont have a lot of expereance but that stuf dosent stick to anything but metal....in prob less then 6 months it will all crack and peal rite off...if thats the same kinda wing my buddy had on his camaro (all spungy, soft and cracks half and inch wide) the only thing that might! work (no promises) would be spot puddy...

its the stuff boddy shops use on rubber bumper covers...and to cover pin holes...it u can u schould scuff the paint (the only thnig it will stick 2) and put it on the same way as bondo...keep in mind it is ment for fine refinishing work...so its hard to snad...so put as lil on as possable

i dont no if it will work on theat stuff...but it willl be way better then bondo
