etest tomorrow

Taking my car in tomorrow for a retest. I had it done last saturday but it failed the idle test. Passed the 40kph with flying colors. I'm going to lean out the car a bit more to get it to pass..hope it works

HC allowed 300ppm - ME 379ppm
CO 1.50% allowed - me 1.70%

I'm glad there is no e-check or anything like it around here...my 84 would never pass...

just did mine last week and the emissions were surprisingly low. but i was worried for awhile. i'm sure you know but make sure you use hi-test gas.

No, don't use "high test" or high-octane gas- worst thing you can do if the car is tuned properly and low-compression- you'll spew far more HC's than using standard 87-octane.

Don't lean it out too much or you risk having your NOX reading go way up. You can get anything to pass that isn't outright burning oil- but you need to find a place that'll let you "re-tune" while the car is still on the dyno.

i put the guaranteed to pass stuff in the gas tank and followed the instructions on the box and my readings were incredibly low. the only thing that failed was my gas cap but the guy at mufflerman just gave me a new one for free

I tried the guaranteed to pass carp in my truck and it did absolutely nothing.
Lean it out and play with the timing.
The testers can run 'training runs' that give results without them going to the Ministry. Just need the right place and maybe a case of beer in the trunk.

Make sure the car is good and hot when you pull it in. Make an appointment ...so the car will be as hot as it can be. Also a good oil change is imperative too.

Do the following things and they should help just enough to pass.....

-Change oil (oil holds carbon)
-replace air filter (use a K&N if you dont have one already.)
-pour in 2 bottles of heat (or any other gas antifreeze) to a half tank of gas. (heat is nothing more than an alcohol mix and alcohol burns almost no emissons)

Re: etest tomorrow

I know this is an old thread but I just wanted to post an update to it. I finally got around to getting the car tested again today. I had parked the car over the winter and never bothered to get it retested in the fall. I took it to a different shop this time, and they refused to test it as a hot rod without some documentation proving the block was not original. I decided to get the test done at 91 levels anyways as I wanted to get a baseline test to see where I was at and then tune from there. So the results were

40kph test
HC - Allowed 55 Me 6
CO% 0.31 Me 0.00
NO PPM 612 Me 389

Idle
HC 200 Me 170
CO% 1.00 Me 0.15

So you can see I passed with flying colors, which was not what I was expecting at all. The only thing I had done over the winter was upgrade the stock junkyard HEI ignition I was running to a Crane HI-6 CD box and PS91 coil in hopes of passing the test. Other than that, the car was the same as before. I did run a gallon of Methyl Hydrate in the tank, but I had also done that in the fall as well. Needless to say, this made my day
