Need help with Header Choices
Hey all,
I have gone though old posts and some of the tips on the Regional boards. But still not sure? I have narrowed down to 2 headers
I have an 89 GTA with a 350 L98. I am thinking either the Hooker 2055HKR\20551HKR or the Mac Ceramac TF8692.
From what I have read, both are street legal. Any one have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Anyone know if you can get Dyno Don's headers with AIR Tubes? Or how about 3rd Gen LS1 headers?

Re: Need help with Header Choices
You'd have to buy Dyno Don's headers thru Lon at Top Down Solutions, as Don cannot ship to Canada.
Yes they're street legal. We're running them here in California and they pass smog just fine. As Hawk said they look just like SLP's, only better. He makes them with or without AIR tubes, and with a single cat or dual cat y-pipe.
The Hooker 2055's are a fine choice too, but the y-pipe is only for single cat cars.

Re: Need help with Header Choices
For starters the drivers side rear pipe had a habit of hitting the steering shaft on some car's, my own included, alot of peeps mistakenly thoguht they had to dent the header to clear. You do NOT have to dent the header, its only 3 bolts to undo the stering colum at the floor by the pedals and then just move it over the extra 1/4" needed and tighten them back up, that is all I did with mine and there is lots of room there now.

Also the SLP's y-pipe I beleive is only 2 1/4" were as Don's are 2.5" into 3", I think there is abit of a write up on some of the SLP restrictions and problems in the exhaust section. Plus Kevin or Don would be able to clarify more on what they all changed. All in all I luv my SLP headers, I have just out grown them and need better
I have been contemplating asknig Don if he can customize me a set, I dont like the look of the SLP/Stock AIR pipe's, I like the LT1 AIR set-up better, it looks cleaner to me then having all them little pipes, to do just one bigger one, alot of peeps around here are ordering the non AIR headers, drilling a hole and welding on the fitting, I am too lazy and also dont want to send it out to get coated again
I also want to know if he'll do the Dual Cat Y as dual 3" into 3.5" instead of the usual dual 2.5" into 3" because there going onto a 6.8L instead of a 5.7L, and I am thinknig of grabbing the 3 1/2" Stainless Works cat back. I jsut havent gotten around to asking him yet.

Not sure of going to 1 7/8" instead of 1 3/4" would be a good idea yet or not either, I need to learn more about exhaust yet.

Hawk, he can do a 3" or 3.5" outlet but a 3" y-pipe? I dont think there's enough room under the car for something that big. Don and Allen have 2 3/4" y-pipe and mine is 2 1/2" as my car is lowered. 2 3/4" just barely fits. I have a 3.5" i-pipe and muffler on mine.
If you can provide pictures of the "LT1" style air tubes he might be able to do that. He does it the thirdgen way with four pipes as that looks closer to stock.

Naw, sorry we dont support LS1's. We're all about TPI.

See how the LT1 is a single AIR tube instead of all the individual tubes, it gives a much cleaner look.
Dual 2 3/4 into 3.5" would have to do then if its the biggest we can fit
my car isnt lowered but i do have an oversize oilpan that we had to modify the SLP's y-pipe very minor to clear Joined: Jun 2002
