I was checking into some Cragar SS 17 inch rims for my Firebird.

It turns out Cragar SS rims are now built by Weld Racing. IMHO these are absolutely beautiful rims. I saw them in SuperChevy mag and have been looking for info on the web.

I am not clear on the backspacing bit. The offsets are 20, 30 and 40 positive so there is some room to fit the fender well. The 17s can only be had in 8 inch widths. In fact the 16s, 17s and 18s can only be had in 8 inch width or so their web page says.

I thought our stock rims were 8 1/2 inch wide ????

Ideally I would install some 275/40 17s but am not sure if these would work on an 8 inch (rather than 9 inch) wide rim ? Does the 8 inch rim mean you have to install a 245/45 17s ???

I went to the tirerack website on-line sizing system to try the size combination you are looking at . The system say's the only available 17" tire size that will fit is the 245/45 17, it doesn't mean your alternitive won't fit but it would be a good idea to call someone knowledgeable to ask before you order your tires.. By the way I used to have a set of the cragar ss wheel's on a couple of my second gen car's and just so you know they are quite heavy and somewhat brittle( I bent two) the chrome also started to peel toward's the end of the time I owned them (mind you I had them for the better part of 5 year's) SR
