I read about this somewhere but I can't find it again. I know that something causes the vacuum canister to smell strongly of fuel and can even cause raw fuel to saturate it... but what does this?? I don't see any actual fuel leaking out from anywhere around the canister but it does seem to smell strongly of fuel after running. The canister filter was just changed about a year and a half ago and I heard they don't get bad that often. Any help about this would be greatly appreciated.

Most common causes -

1- The fuel cap is not venting anymore, causing too much pressure to build up in the system.

2- The vent line that runs from the canister to the fuel tank is clogged with something.

Hope that helps!

How would I check the vent line to see if it's clogged and if it is how would I go about fixing it? I'm sure it's not that easy to just replace, is it?? I might try the gas cap thing first though. Thanks.

To check it, just disconnect the canister and hook a fresh piece of vacuum hose up to the hard line in the fenderwell. Blow air into the line, and if it blows free, you have no problem there. If you feel a restriction, then I guess you might have to replace the line. No idea how you'd do that part, since I have a G-body.

I don't think the Stock Fuel caps on these car's are Venting.

I replaced my stock cap with a venting STANT cap when I removed the Evap canister and capped off the vent line.

On a related note, My car gets a Strong fuel smell when i stand on the brakes from high speed, But I think thats cause the fuel In the bowl on the Qjet is sloshing out hte EVAP vent and vaporiing on the manifold

Hmmm... if the stock caps on the thirdgens aren't vented caps and the vent line to my canister is clogged, then adding a vented cap should help out. In theory of course.
