i just visited TBI board. adventurous me. my GTA has been running 12 degrees total timing since i bought it. stock value is something less. when she's cold ride is nice, but when she's warming up all the power's gone. distributor in TPI engine is not those first spots you want to adjust
and 12 degrees is too much.. total timing is then something like 40 degrees? so the timing in my ride is still there sitting on 12 degrees on base advance. no wonder why it's feeling so slow then engine is hot
what all this has to do with TBI board? moderator there told me that adding timing will work until it goes up to limit. i figured out that total timing is less agressive when engine is cold, and that's why it makes 2nd gear rubber easily when cold. when engine is hot, spark advance is normal, and advance is simply too much. what happens inside ECM can know only PROM tuners, since everything seems to effect about everything. for me it looks like much more convenient to keep my ride in factory settings
cheers,

I'm not sure what the crackheads on the TBI board told you, but your spark advance is not affected by engine temp (except on start-up)
When your engine is still cold it will run richer, which will cover the extra timing and perhaps keep it from pinging and setting off the knock sensor (which will mae you run like a slug)
However your real solution is to take the timing back to stock. Don't act like a TBI guy and just bump your timing up to some arbitrary number. You play with your timing in a controlled setting so you can actually measure performance. There is no point to just moving timing unless you can see what it is doing.

propably i forgot the real point of my message. that is, keep your ride in stock adjustments until you know what you're doing.
Ed, TBI guys have quite a good idea of tuning, that's what i read from their sticky post.

I wouldn't knock TBI. It does have a lot of potential Ed.

Ed's point, and mine also, is that a perfectly-running TBI makes less power than multiport injection or even a decent carb.
If you're going to assert that TBI has potential, demonstrate it with dyno numbers or a timeslip. Show a fast, well-tuned TBI car and the TBI-bashing will stop.

I'm closing this because i will not even bother with a TBI discussion on this board. Go talk about the merits of TBI on that board, i want to hang out here where a 13 second car is for a few bolt-ons, not all out builds
