WHat Is the MOst Smog Equipment Removed BEfore Emissions Go bad!?
Hey, I am building up my car and in getting a new intake (LT1 converted for L98) The EGR is eliminated. I want to know much other emissions equipment I can remove while still passing inspection. I have never seen an article on the tricks and tips of what can go and what can stay etc. Thanks Guys*!:lala:

It depends on how strict your emissions testing is. If you have an underhood inspection, you'll fail if you remove anything. If you just have a tailpipe test, then it depends on the person doing the smog. They'll fail you if they see something is missing, but if they dont see it you're ok. The catalytic converter and the EGR are what do most of the emissions clean-up. The other stuff like the smog pump and AIR tubes help the cat do its job.
The only thing the ECM cares about is the EGR. Everything else the computer has no feedback on. If you remove the EGR, you'll set a Code 32 quite often. You'll need a custom chip that removes the SES light for Code 32, its really simple to do.
However, keep in mind the emissions stuff is a federal thing, and removing or tampering with it is a federal offense, punishable by jail time, a fine, or both.

OKAy, I can't do anything about removing the EGR. WIth my new intake it is coming off. I live in massachusetts and there is a kind of strict emissions test. What I need is someone to tell me their personal experience. I know they won't look under the hood so closely to see if there is an EGR or not. The engine will be custom and they won't try locating every sensor etc. I need responses from people that have removed things so when the tailpipe check is done their car comes out clean etc. I need my car to to be legal so there is a high resale value.
You can easily pass with the correct tuning. I have never failed a tail pipe test, no matter what i took off. But the tuning is way different in the ranges the egr operates, you'll definitly need a reprogrammed prom.
