Cam/Prom compatibility?

I've been planning a cam swap and I have noticed that a few people mentioned that they have had to burn custom chips to make their cam work. Now don't get me wrong, I know that even with the stock cam, I'll get more out of it if I burn a chip, but I'd like to NOT have to do that until later. I'm not gonna go too aggressive with the cam(sorry, no exact numbers yet), but I'm guessing that the computer problems were happening to engines with a lot more mods....Is this correct....?

I know a lot of you have swapped cams....how did it go with the computer?

Thanks.

try one of Crane's PowerMax emissions legal cams. these used to be called the CompuCam. they were supposed to be for computer controlled vehicles with stock computers.

I am still running a stock prom, with no driveability issues yet. I do plan on changing that in the future though.
