Taller tire, effective gear change ,opinions
Im currently running a ZZ4,TPI ,ported stock intake ,simese runners, auto with 3:73 and 2400 converter. With 26 in tall tires the car appeard to be over geared, was running out of engine before the traps.Best MPH in 3rd is 101.02 ,hitting 4th got a 102.7.,so that kinda proved my fears.Tires I had on it were
295/50/15, and I changes to 275/60/15 which are 2 in taller, and by the calc here ,gives me an effective ratio of about 3:50 rear.tires are about 1 in less in width.
Ive seen on here that most of the good running TPI cars are usually 3:42 rear,.so.......opinions, am I right in my theory that it should help the car are bunch, stay in power.torque band longer, not run out of engine ,etc
thanks

when i went from 235/60-15 (26") to 275/60-15 (28") i picked up .24 in the 1/4 mile. this was with 3.42 gears. gear ratios are based on 27" tires.
