Once Again the Injector Clip Issue
I know this has been gone over many times before. I searched all the old topics but I'm still nervous on which way to go so if anyone could advise me I'd really appreciate it.
I have the 24lb Ford SVO injectors and they are quite a bit shorter then my originals. I also see the two clip slots, the top one that goes all the way around and the lower that does not. Using the higher one the injector doesn't sit far enough in the rail for my comfort. Using the lower slot I'd need to cut it so it continues all the way around for the clip to work. I have no problem cutting the slot so it goes all the way around but then the injector would sit rather far into the rail. The second way would make me feel better but I'm not sure then if it'd would seat into the intake manifold far enough. I'm scared not to use the clips b/c I'm reading about people having leaks and fires!
I'll buy new GM o-rings for the SVO's and I'll buy new clips b/c I have a few broken ones but other then that what do guys think I should do? Like I said before, I'd really like to use the clips if possible.

One thing I just thought of. I know I said above that the top slot seems to have the injector not sitting in the rail far enough but If the o-ring is what actually makes the seal in the fuel rail, then wouldn't it be ok to use the top slot? As long as the o-ring is fully in the rail and the clips are there to hold the injector from moving down and out of the rail, wouldn't that be good?
You do not need the clips, they only hold the injectors in on the assembly line, so they would not fall out. I just replaced mine with the 24 # SVO injectors, I DID not use the clips I had no leaks. The fuel rail bolts hold in the injectors not the clips, they have no purpose except for at the factory.
Hope this helps

Use the top groove, its fine. Its seated plenty well at that spot.
As for not using the clips, I wouldnt advise it. Not all parts are machined identical. I have one location where you can push the injector down by hand and the o-ring unseats from the rail and with fuel pressure it would leak. The 50psi on the backside of the injector and engine vibrations could cause this to happen during normal operation. At least one person here had their car go up in flames... so I'd seriously advise using the clips.
