TPI Harness question

Hi,

I'm swapping TPI into my '84 Z/28 but hit a snag. The engine & ECM is '86 but the harness is from an '85 IROC-Z. '85 ECM had that "burn off module" but '86-89 didn't. The '85 harness won't work.

Yes, I guess I can hack-up the '85 harness and repin it but:

A. That's a major PITA for me
B. I'm sure I'd screw it up
C. I'm sure I'd screw it up
D. I'm sure I'd screw it up

My question is this: I know the '86 Camaro harness will work, but I'm having a hard time finding an '86 harness... so will an '87 or '88 harness work too?

TIA,

Ed

86-89 will work

But as im sure you're already finding out, good F**k'n luck finding one.

Mod the 85 harness. I did it and it works just fine, I finished it in about half an hour, why swap to TPI if you can't even handle swapping a few pins.

The 87-88 harness will work but it won't just "hook up". From 85-86 they used the old style coil in cap HEI. And in 87 up they used the remote coil setup so the ignition plugs are a little different, other than that an 87-88 harness would work fine as far as I know. But as its already been mentioned, why not just repin it, Mike Davis has already done all of the homework. Swapping to TPI takes time already, do the extra 3 hours of work and be done with it.

In 88 v8 F bods went over to the serpentine belt system, some of the plugs may not be in the same place, also, the under-dash part of the harness isn't the same and will need to be repinned.

In 89 they did away with the cold start injector, if you use an 89 harness you will most likely need a custom chip also.

Thanks,

I guess I'll try repinning the '85 harness.

Give Trans am Creations in Florida a call, they may have the correct harness in stock. I've ordered from them several times, and never been dissapointed
