TPI L98 AFPR and other questions
TPI L98 AFPR and other questions
Hi everyone! I hope you can help me with my questions.
1. I just installed an Accel AFPR and it is set at 56psi, I have noticed that 48-52 psi is recommended but is 56 too much. I installed it and WOW what a difference around town! anyhow I have noticed that it seems to run out of steam above 90mph what is the deal? Is the fuel pump not keeping up or what? What do you recommend?
2. I have been developing cracks in the top at the rear corner of the windows on bothe the driver and passenger sides. I was told to weld them and did, but they came back. Will SFC'c fix this issue so it doesn't come back? What do you suggest?
BTW my car is equipped as follows: 1991 Z28 L98 Hardtop...obviously G92 3.23 limited slip. Accel 21lb/hr injectors, accel supercoil, Accel AFPR (56 psi), 8* base timing, K&N filters in stock airbox. 180 degree thermostat. Stock Exaust...i know. Next?
With this setup i have not had a problem with LT1's, most LS1's, not to mention Cobra's, GT's, and various rice fodder. Is it just me or are these not supposed to be faster?
Being a college student $ is very limited....I would love a pwerdyne sc, 150 shot, LT-4 HOT cam ect but....
What next?
Sorry about the length, just 6 months into the thirdgen realm and need recommendations.
Also 20mpg, as long as i stay aay from triple digits.
Glad I sold the 72 Nova for it!
thanks...later.

yes I beleive that 56 psi is a little high. I have my 350 TPI ant 50 psi.
As for the cracks. I have T-tops, and I have the same problem. I welded them, and they seem to be ok. The sub frame connectors will help. They are on my list.
As for it running out of steam at 90, go for a lower gear, and new exhaust. The stock exhaust is holding you back.
welcome to the board.

Definately exhaust. I notices a Seat of the pants difference in my 305 TPI after adding a perfomance cat-back exhaust and the engine breathed into higher RPM's as well. I can only speak for the edelbrock Cat-Back b/c that is what I have but I am very pleased with it. All the pieces fit together nicely, good flow, and nice low rumble sound.
It would really make sense to put headers on if the rest of the exhaust is still stock since the benefit of the headers would almost be negated by the remaining stock exhaust. Just thought I would throw that in for consideration.
