MAF swapping
MAF swapping
Has anyone tried to use a Maf from a LT1 or LS1 in a tpi. I was talking to a GM electronics tech while on Power Tour and he said that it was a doable swap with the right calibration in the prom. Just wondering if anyone has tried yet.
Why bother? It would be easier to convert to the 90-92 speed density system.
There is some info on the DIY PROM board about this. Search the archives for the MAF 255 limit, especially in Grumpy's posts.

I want to stay with a maf system because with a larger cam my car doesnt have a lot of vacuum and wouldnt work well with the map sesor. Besides the maf systems are a lot more lenient when it comes to mods.

The LT1 & LS1 MAFs provide a totally different signal, and even the linearity on the scale of voltage/frequency vs. airflow is different. It would require a signal converter which would need to use reference tables. But, after all that, your computer will still be too stupid to recognize anything beyond 450cfm, which brings me to my next point.
MAF systems may be more lenient, but once you go past the 350~400hp level, you're going to hit a brick wall with the MAF system. At that point, it will be necessary to swap to SD or an aftermarket DFI type system. With proper PROM tuning, a SD system can handle almost any cam no matter how radical.
