code 34

I just put a new maf sensor on my car last summer i got a code 34 yesterday my car would not stay running unless i gave it a bit of throttle as soon as i would let off the car would die even while i was driving down the road at 30mph after a bit it came out of it and now its working normal. i checked the maf and all the wires are still connected.my car does have a supercoil on it, could that make high voltage?and i changed the spark plugs to accell and the wires too, could it be getting too much spark??but if that was the case it should still keep itself running.any imput would be greatly appreciated.

Possibly a slighty stretched female pin at the MAF harness connector that was making poor contact. I had a similar problem back when the car was new after GM replaced the MAF. After they did the swap I'd keep getting the check engine light and the car would stall if I let up on the gas. Took it back to GM and they said the MAF was bad again and had to order one. After a couple of days of it acting up I got a wild hair and pulled the connector and looked at it, sure enough one of the female pins had gotten distorted when they pulled it off and put on the new MAF. I used an awl to close the pin back up and haven't had any more problems in 17 years.

Yep, definately. I had a similar problem last year with my 88 Firechicken with the L-98 option and it turned out to be one of the relays up near driver's side of the firewall. It was an intermittent (as they always seem to be) and I may have never really fixed it but it hasn't happened.... KNOCK ON WOOD!.....in almost a year. Mine would happen sporadically and would make the engine light come one...I'd read a code 34 back... Good Luck hope you get it

Butwhat makes the car die unless i give it gas???you would think it would just smoke or something but it won't stay running and then it comes out of it on its own and works great for along time.

Without your maf sensor your car has absolutely NO idea what kind of air its taking in or what kind of load its under.

IT wont know the timing or fuel to deliver, unplug the maf on any maf car and you'll get the exact same thing, a car that BARELY runs, and doesn't idle.
