L98 build up questions...

Ok, Im a newbie so bear with me (I've handled my share of SBC's and more recently LS1's as I have a 98 Trans Am also). Im am (*** willing) going to be purchasing a 92 25th RS B4C to replace my old 92 25th RS that I sold a few years ago. This one has the 350 TPI motor that goes along with that B4C/1LE pkg.

Now, what should I do with it? This will be a fair weather/weekend warrior car so drivability isnt THAT much of a factor, but I LOVE to take the cars out and just drive. It only has an air foil and Edelbrock headers as of now (with dual cats and a Flowcrapper catback).

I was thinking along the line of a stock-shortblock solid roller motor (with new shortblock soon to follow ) or maybe just a strong top end. Im a big fan of TPiS so I'd like to keep them in mind for the cams and intake side. And maybe for PROM work as well.

This is a 700R4 car with 3.23's which may be replaced with 3.73's. Although the 700 is already been rebuilt, I was thinking a ProBuilt job with a 2200-2600 stall.

What about popular N2O systems? Blowers? Turbo kits?

Basically, I've been out of the TPI game and want to know whats hot and whats everyone doing with their cars. Cheap is good and faster is better.

Any thoughts

THANKS!

-Jackson

For the price of a TPiS prom, you could almost buy everything you need to burn your own proms. There is a sticky post at the top of this forum that deals with getting started burning proms, read that. There is also a big tech article about getting started that you will find on the prom board.

$155 is all you need to spend to do prom burning

TPiS is a joke all around, I wouldn't buy a single thing from them.

Get a holley stealth ram, a nice comp grind, and some AFR heads.

ok, so no TPiS stuff.

Home burnt PROM
LT4 hotcam
home ported plenum and siamesed base
Holley AFPR

and later...ported alum. heads of some sort and some intake.

the 700R is built now....but who knows how long it will last. I will probably go with an ACT to save some cash. Although I do have a Vig in my LS1. What kind of stall speed goes well behind these motors. My 98TA likes the 3800 stall, but Ill probably go bigger soon. For the L98 I was thinking 2600 or so? whats the best stall before and after the cam????

2,600 is a great speed if you ported say an edelbrock base, siamesed it, then ran some slp runners, 2,400-2,600 is a good range.

Keep in mind the L98 is probably missing 2k rpms of what your LS1 will do so you've got to build around that...

Unless you put on an lt1 intake or a stealth ram.
