Sensor question
Sensor question
My 305 TPI is getting very poor fuel mileage. The check engine light came on and I ran a code check on it with a paperclip. I is code 44 lean exhaust, is that a bad O2 sensor?? Other than the fuel mileage the car runs great.

Generally yes. If it's getting old it'd be a good idea to replace it.
According to my Helms manual it could be caused by many other things as well.
1 O2 sensor wire (mispositioned/contacting exman)
2 MAP sensor
3 Lean Injectors (clean 'em)
4 Fuel contamination (water in tank)
5 Fuel pressure (pump going bad, check under load)
6 Exhaust leak (unlikely)
7 AIR system
Easiest thing to do would be to just replace the O2
