Hello all. i have a 86 iroc with a 305tpi and auto trans. sometimes when i put the car in gear (from park to drive or rev.), the engine dies...mostly when the car is cold. and when i come to a stop, it seems like its going to die....acts like iac motor is slow to respond. put new iac motor in appx 1000 miles ago, got updated prom from gm (thought that would fix my problem) last year. if anybody has had this problem, or knows of anything i can try, please let me know. thanks, tom

What is the car idling at in Park? Does it die everytime? If not, what does it idle at in drive? Are you getting a check engine light? If you're getting a check engine light, it's more than likely your MAF sensor of MAF relay. If not, i'd just try turning the idle up.....but I can't really give you a straight answer till I get a little more info....

Check your minimium idle speed, it should be set at 500 RPM in drive. The minimium idle speed on some TPI cars was to low and GM sent out a service bulliton requesting dealers to check and make sure the minimium idle speed was set to 500 RPM in drive.

Hey everyone. I'm new to the forum, so Hello to everyone. Is there any possible way that your TCC is sticking? If so this may also be causing your stall. Just a thought?

A few things helped me with the exact problem on my 86 TA. But the fuel filter was the biggest thing that helped. Vacum lines were also a big help. I replaced like 20 feet of bad hose a few months back

Scan it and see if the Park/Neutral flag goes on and off when you move the gear selector. If your park/neutral switch doesn't work, the ECM won't know to kick up the idle to prevent a stall because it doesn't know it when you go into gear.

At least that's what it was in my case.

What do you mean by "scan it"? Do you mean check the codes?
