Recent loss of power and start of slow, rough acceleration???
Recently I noticed my 91 Z28 5.7TPI lost alot of its ability to accelerate, I can hardly get wheelspin off the line... I have a hard shift kit and I can chirp 2nd better than ever... Shifting and acceleration seems sloppy and the car really struggles to get out of its own way. I think my friends stock Civic could beat me right now! What are some indicators and quick checks that I could do to see whats up? Its got 138,000 with no rebuild, maybe its whooped? I am hoping there is a less expensive alternative... Also the car idles lower than before.... I don't know, Help please!!! Thanks guys!

my sonoma was doing the same thing last week. I thought it was that catalytic convertor but on a whim I changed the fuel filter. I couldn't believe the difference. I don't know if this will help you but it couldn't hurt. My truck only has 31000 miles on it but the old filter was almost completely plugged.

Just makesure you check and/or replace everything like the plugs wires cap rotor fuel filte. Basically just do a tune up. Every since my car was driven off the showroom floor it was beaton. first owner was a 17 year old. second was a 20 yearold third was me (!5 when I bought it in dec'99) it has 170K and still runs very strong. Im sure its not as peppy as when it had 20K but it will motivate.
A sudden or recent loss in power could mean a few things:
1 - clogged catalytic convertor
2 - clogged fuel filter
3 - ignition coil or module going bad
4 - Bad gas
5 - possible trans problem (check fluid level and condition)
If #1, 2 or 3 are original parts, then I'd seriously change them all out for quality new parts.
Bad gas will go away after the next refill, or you can add new gas as soon as you reach 1/2 tank and it should help a bit.
I know that a trans problem can make a car feel like it's way down on power. I just had my trans redone and it feels like I gained 100hp.
Hope these tips will help solve your problem
