Hi,

I have the chance to pick up a set of aluminum vette heads for $400 plus new rockers & springs...

These heads were already hot tanked yet some assembly required :-) as they are in pieces right now.

The casting number for them is 14101128 which makes them 86-87 aluminum heads with angled plugs and 58cc.

I have an 89 350 TPI that these would go on. My question is are these heads worth my time and money? Would I be required to do a lot of modification? What exactly would need to be done to attach them to my engine? Any insight any of you can give me I'd greatly appreciate...

 

They're ok. Nothing to write home about.. The 80's vettes were just as bad as the thirdgens as far as parts went..

For the same amount of money you can get some good used iron heads (aftermarket)..

Aftermarket heads for $400?


The cast iron L98 heads were ported to flow just about at par with some of the aftermarket head options for our cars, almost appraocing AFR if I remember correctly be a member of this board.

So if you take the ALUMINUM heads, with compression advantages, and better detonation tollerance vs cast, then you add in the Dport exhaust ports, then port them, i'd say $400 is a good price to pay for some nice heads that you can still boast are bowties

 

He should be able to find some used aftermarket heads for 400.00.. I'm not very impressed by the alum L98 heads.
