Just bought a 86 Ta with a 5.0 TPI. The idle is 1,200 on start up but only drops to about 850 when warm. I don't like the load clang it makes when it goes into gear at that high of engine speed. How can I get the RPMs down. Put a scan tool on it and it is throwing a code 32 and a code 44. check engine like comes on when it idles for more than 5 minutes but goes out when you take off. Is this makeing the idle go up. Is the EGR value stuck or leaking or something. Or is it the IAC motor. Would an o2 sensor cause high RPMs?

 

Man the only thing I could really tell ya is set the minium air (IAC) and adjust the tps and see if it is off. If none of that works I would check out your cts or o2 sensor. There is a tech article on this site on how to set the IAC and TPS.
