how to drop 1/4 time
ok last wed. i went to e town my best out of three runs was a 14.3 i have slp 1 3/4 headers random tech cats flowmaster catback airfoil and k&n filters. What simple / cheap stuff could i do to drop anout 4 tenths of a sec. would a shift kit help my times at all ?
A cam is a cheap and very effective mod, it unfortunatly is one that involves a little more work than most of the rest, but if you hvae the time and energy it might be your next in line.
After that start working on a new intake setup.

I agree on the cam but I'm one of those guys who likes to do "batches" of mods.
I'd do the heads too right away - new ones or some porting on the stockers.
I'd do some porting on the intake too since it is off and you're waiting for your heads to come out of the shop . . .
But that's just me.

What was the rest of the slip, 60' and mph? It's possible you still have a few tenths in it as it sits. How good are your plugs/wires/etc? Are you trying anything with the timing or checking for knock? Tuning the fuel pressure?
And thats just the little cheap stuff. As for mods, again just porting the stock intake will do a lot for you. After that though you really want to establich a long term plan. Lot's of things to do, but you'll end up wasting money if you don't have a plan.

The main gains will be in a heads/cam/intake combo, but there are a few things you might wanna try before you jump into that.
Try some of the "free mods" if you haven't already: TB coolant bypass, etc.
If you're planning on keeping the long tube runner intake setup for awhile you can port your plenum. It's very easy and can even be done with a drill bit.
If you just want to lower your track times a little, try icing your intake for about 20-30 minutes before you run. Or removing your front sway bar. Or playing with your rear tire pressure and raising your front tire pressure to around 50psi. Also, be sure and take out any extra unwanted junk in your car to lower the weight.
As Ed menioned, you should try adjusting your fuel pressure with an AFPR and your timing. You should really have some way to record the performance difference it makes though, like a tazzo or a g-tech if you can't test it at the track. It will probably work better than any off-the-shelf PROM though. I'm sure Ed could talk you into burning your own PROMs, but that doesn't exactly fall under the simple category (not at all). Also, like he said, you can port the stock intake base if you have access to the proper tools and the time.
How is your traction? You may want to look into a set of LCA relocation brackets from Spohn Performance. Their cheap. 14.3 is a pretty good time though so you're probly not spinning to much.
I may be wrong, but I don't think a shift kit will help ETs at all, just make firmer shifts.
Hope I helped
