Does my Super Ram have a vac. leak?
As far as I know the Super Ram is designed for low-end torque and better than stock breathing at higher RPM's right??
Well my new engine doesn't feel like it pulls that much harder than my old 305.....what's the deal with that? Most of my parts are listed in my signature. Would a vac leak cause a major loss in low end power? Above 3K the engine pulls really hard, but I'm not in the range very often.
I had a vac gauge on the engine a few months ago and it was pulling about 16-18 lbs. of vac. I only really tested it at idle and the needle bounced around only very slightly (about a 2 lb. swing). I do hear a whistling noise when the engine is running but I think it might just be the air passing through the throttle body. I also tried going around with some carb cleaner and didn't hear any engine racing when I sprayed it all around.
What do you guys think?

There are many places a Super Ram can leak, the runner to base is a common spot, switching right & left runners will defintely do it. (ask me I know) A rushing air sound is the symtom. If this is not the case, what cam & have you done any PROM tuning ? A 383 Super Ram should pull strong from 2200-5800.

Rick,
Thanks for the reply. Like I said I did try to check all of my connections with a can of carb cleaner and found no definitive results. My sound isn't so much a rushing of air as a whistling.
I have been worried about my runner to base connections though because for some reason I had to grind on the bottom of my runners to get them to fit correctly and I was concerned with the bottom runner bolt not snugging up enough.
Next time that I am home from school I will check that connection again.
The runners should be on the correct sides, but maybe I can check that also.
My cam is only slightly larger than a stock 350 cam...
...I don't have the exact specs with me.
The PROM was done by Ed Wright and after running WinALDL on the car the numbers seem fairly close to what they should be.

I doubt you have a vacuum leak if you can't find one, they're pretty easy to find if you're spraying carb cleaner around. How do you have your timing set? Sounds like you've got sufficient vacuum.

Last time I had a whistling sound with my SR, I had left out one of the runner-plenum bolts on the underside. It ran like crap for obvious reasons, and after the bolt was in, like a charm.
I would go over all the bolts again just to be sure, couldn't hurt.
