Question about Closed Loop?

I am running Moates software and the car is running in closed loop and staying there. I drove for an hour and it never changed. What does closed loop mean?

Closed loop happens when the O2 sensor gets hot enough to start sending voltage to the ecm, telling the ecm of the oxygen content of the exhaust, so the ecm can adjust the fuel/air ratio to 14.7:1....Closed loop is a good thing.

How do you know you're in closed loop without any specialty tools?

For most it is just something that you learn to recognize. different things will tell you it entered closed loop, ie ; idle drops, idle gets smoother, TC lockup occurs at the programmed speed and just the overall sound and "feel" of the engine will let you know.

put a jumper in the ALDL connector like your gonna check for codes and start the car. when the light blinks very fast (like twice per second) your in open loop. when it slows down and comes on then goes off maybe once a second then your in closed loop. but it will vary while driving at different loads. when the light is on your running rich, when its off it's lean. it should come on and go off constantly. this way you know your O2 sensor is working properly and the computer is making the adjustment. should stay on fully at WOT.
