tpi numbers
how diffrent is the tbi engine compared to the tpi???
i have a 92 rs 305 w/5spd tranny... it is the tbi and the only mods i have is a kn extreme lid with the fuel pod spacer and the silencer ring removed an a 3x 14 open element filter.
i was looking at the specs on the 92's on this site and the 305 tpi has like 205 hp or so and the tbi has 170... now is the 30 something horses because of the tpi or is there other diffrences like the heads or the exhaust system???
also if i can get the tpi set up out of another 305 would that justify buying it??? i can't afford to spend 1000 on a fuel injection kit, but we do have a u wrench it here and they are super dirt cheap in their prices!!! i bought a gauge cluster for 13.00 the new ones from nissan were like 600.00 i beleive intake mans are like 10.00. used turbos are 39.00 and intercoolers are 49 so you can see all this stuff is cheap!!! also what other vehicles have a compaatable 305 tpi that i could get the parts out of? i am fairly new the the hot rod seen but i know alot about imports so any ifo someone can provide will be much appreciated!!!
thanks,
chris

FYI u wrench it doesnt have **** for camaro firebird in the 3rd gen range. at least when the last hr member checked they didnt. you can put together a tpi system for a fair price. i have a spare manifold and runners off my 89. you would still need plenum, tb, sensors, ecm and harness.
think about what your end goal is 1st though, i went to the impala club dyno day on sunday and made plenty of tq but little hp. i made close tq numbers to several moded lt1's but about 100+ less hp. tpi make 100 more lbft then hp everytime. if you want hp at 5k or up tpi wont do it, well not without major work.

i know they don't have much for the fbody but they do have some trucks out there and some vans so i didn't know if you could use the same tpi intake and stuff as long as it was hte same engine size??? or if i could get the tpi unit from a 350 and then just install new smaller injectors. but like i said i mainly wanted to know what made the stock tpi have so much more hp and trq than the stock tbi was the heads diffrent or the exhaust. i know the intake manifolds are diffrent. also which one came with dual cats? i have also hjeard from someon that the exhaust was bigger on the tpi like 3" and the tbi is 2.5" or something like that???

The intake itself will work on either 350 or 305 blocks. I think all of the harness and wiring are the same, just make sure the harness is for either a MAF setup or Speed Density, whichever you end up with. The ECM is different for the 305 than the 350, and it is different for the SD vs MAF. SD came on 90-92 f-bodies, and MAF was on the pre-90 TPIs FYI...
