De Smogging a California car

I just bought an 85 Iroc with T.P.I.,I ran the vin and it came up a calif car. I didnt know it was cause the motor was ripped out and didnt see a smog pump. It has a pcv valve and only one cat. How do I desmog this car. I know i need a new prom and stuff, I planned on putting on headers,so I was going to do away with the exhaust tubes but what are the next steps. Thanks for any info.

shouldn't be any different than any other 85 TPI car. With desmogging you could mean a lot of things, including gutting the cat or completely removing it, removing hte smog pump and AIR tubes. as for the ECM I don't think you'd have to change that, a lot of people have had no engine codes with removing the smog pump but you will have to reroute your belts, check out the tech article on the boards on how to do that. You should leave the PCV valve in there, and what do you mean by the engine was ripped out?

Sorry I wasnt real clear. I was just talking about doing away with the smog pump. I was told I would need a new prom though. As for the motor ripped out it was removed no wiring cut but they werent nice to the air condition stuff so wrecking yarding it I will go.

you can def do away with the smog pump but you wont' be able to use your stock routing for the belts, theres a tech article on the boards that tells you how to route the new belt and what size to get, i don't think its possible to get rid of it though since you're still running stock exhaust manifolds i assume, y not throw some headers on there, take out the smog pump and remove the cat since running a cat without the smog pump will cause it to clog up, and you get a nice flowing system

First off, It is a felony to Tamper with smog equipment on an Emissions equiped vehicle.

That Being said, An 85 uses a convetional V-Belt setup so there is no Belt re-routing nessicary.

Just simply remove the belt, that is all.

There is no real advantage to removing the Smog pump, Or any emissions equipment for that matter.

The only advantages are superficial, In that the engine is less clutterd and easier to work on.

You Do not need a new PROM.

I dont think removing the smog pump would plug up your cat. My other 2 cars dont have smog pump and their cats dont plug up.
