1/8" seems like alot of play. Take the dist out and check that the reluctor hasn't let go of the mainshaft. That could cause the play. It did on mine.

The one in my 87 had .135 end play. Nothing had let go in it, just the way it must have come from the factory. I bought some shims from my local "performance" parts store from Mr. Gasket for about $5.00. Comes as an assortment and I swapped them around so I had about .015 play. All you do is drive the roll pin out, put the shims in, and replace the roll pin.
