Real quick... Junkyard TPI.. should I buy it?

I found a complete TPI setup in a junkyard... Runners, intake, computer, injectors, wiring, sensors, etc.. for $475

Should I buy it? I dont know if its a MAF or Speed Density Setup, if its MAF Can i convert it easilly enough?

I will probably turn around and sell the runners / intake and go with the Stealth Ram, But i would like the computer and sensors from this kit. Do you think that would work out for the stealth ram?

Thanks guys.

They go cheaper than that on E bay. As for the sensors, you are better off getting new ones from GM.

ok so wait, that sounds like a plan. Does this make sense?
-All new sensors from GM.
-Find 92 computer in junkyard?
-Where to get wiring harness for computer?
-Buy StealthRam setup from thunderracing...
-New injectors / fuel pump from Holley?
-Chip burning setup from?? Search time...

Oh, and will the stealthram bolt to my Pre-86' engine? I have a 76 block, And Im worried it may not match up...

Anything You can think of I will need to put the stealth on my carbed 355? I've been throwing this idea around for a long time.

OKay, Here is a list of justa Few things

Intake High pressure Fuel pump - Go with a Walbro

Appropriate sender from a EFI Fbody ( V6 will work )

EFI Fbody fuel lines or Custom ( V6 will work )

7730 Speed Density Computer ( can be had off ebay, Or from any 90-92 MPFI/TPI Thirdgen )

All sensors, new from GM or where you want, Including MAP, CTS, IAT, KS, TPS, IAC, O2, Others im forgetting right now...

Injectors, I think used Lt1 24# Injectors Sent to www.cruzinperformance.com are great for a mild - Warm setup.

Throttle body - Stock 48mm Is good to mid 12's at least. Ebay.

HSR plenum base and Fuel rails

Wiring harness, Can be found on Ebay Or from Painless, Also www.chevythunder.com But that guy is JAckass and a Ripoff.

The painless Harness Will cost you about as much as the Factory harness will from EBAY, but the Painless harness has no provision for smog equipment, I don't know if thats a factor for you.

Also Rumors of the painless harness not being long enough, I don't know about that one.

Chip Burning Components from www.jdr.com ( AT29c256) And www.xtronics.com (Pocket Programmer )

Software either free from winbin, or www.tunercat.com for the 80$ Pay version.

Either modify Your own Memcal (easy enough) Or Buy Craig moates adapter ( even easier, but $$ )

TPI Divorced Coil Distributor, Or aftermarket. Ebay Most likely For that.

Divorced coil coil, haha. MSD Blaster is Cheaper than Stock.

Custom Soft fuel lines from Factory Hardlines to HSR...

Thats all that comes to mind right now, Im positive I have forgotten something tho.

And yeah, HSR has the early model Bolt pattern so it will work fine on your heads.

Im doing the Same swap, But using stock LTR instead of HSR ( wonderful state of California )

I have about 1k Invested, and Have everything except the Fuel hardlines.

Ive gotten some exceedingly good deals, Tho. So you may expect to Pay more.

im beginning to cry. I have so much to do just to get started!
geez but it gets expensive! Its almost worth biting the bullet and getting holley's $2200 stealth ram kit!

and when you say:
Appropriate sender from a EFI Fbody ( V6 will work )
EFI Fbody fuel lines or Custom ( V6 will work )

what are you referring to? My car originally came with crossfire injection, do you think the lines / sender existing will work?

Also,
The painless Harness Will cost you about as much as the Factory harness will from EBAY, but the Painless harness has no provision for smog equipment, I don't know if thats a factor for you.

at this point I think i will look into holley's 950 ECU. I think they can be had on Ebay for like $250-300, but not sure if it will plug right up to the factory/Painless harness? Will i need a harness from Holley for the 950 ECU?

And one more thing, I do not know how to remove the fuel tank in the car so i was thinking IN-LINE fuel pump from holley. I have also heard it is a pain to remove, especially since I cannot drop my exhaust it is completelly welded (doh!). Does Walbro sell an In-line pump? I dont care about noise, I cannot hear myself think in my car as it is. and no emmisions is nothing here in florida.

If your car is a CFI car, it may have the correct sender and Lines already, Im not entirely sure.

Did CFI use an intake electric pump ?

If you don't feel comfertable dropping your fuel tank, I think you had better leave a full on EFI conversion for somewhere down the road when you have a little more experiance.

If you get the Stand lone holley kit, You still need to deal with the Fuel setup.

Yes, You can get a Inline High pressure pump from a number of verdors. Im Sure Walbro Makes one ( and many companies including AFAIK Holley are simply reboxed Walbro Pumps )

But Cutting and splicing a Inline pump into your existing system Is definately more expensive and IMO more of a hassle than pulling the tank, and installing a Quality, Hi Flow Intank pump.

If emissions are not a concern, Then the painless Harness May be a better Candidate for you. I chose the Factory Harness Because I found one in Good Shape, at a good Price, And Emissions are nessicary.

I don't know if the Holley Commander 950 ECU uses Its own standalone harness, Or Not.

I Imagine it does.

Weeel considering I have an inline fuel pump now It wont be a big deal just chaning it out to a different one.

The only reason Im afraid to pull the tank is because I have no idea whats involed. I read you have to drop your exhaust, and thats just not a possibility for me, i just spent 2 whole days welding it up the way i wanted, im not about to cut it when an in-line pump would take 2 minutes to install. I already have the lines and the return line is there too.

Ill have to email holley and see about their ecu harness.
