Car won't run

Okay,

One day my car just died. I could get it home because it would start and run once in a while for 1 mile maybe more or less. I have been trying to fix this since the 1st week out of storage in spring. I have put in a craig motes chip adapter, fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, ignition module, distributor cap/rotor, spark plug wires, oxygen sensor, IAC motor, swapped in 2 other ECMs, and also brought it to a mechanic . Now the car hardly ever starts, if it does start it runs extremely rough and stalls with out warning. The car will never start with the EST wire pluged in.

Any suggestions?

thanks
jake

I'd try a new MAF sensor. Your sig say's its been modified, so those syptoms are typical of a bad MAF, and they are fragile. Also, check out your ignition module/system, coil, etc. It would also help to scan the car. Vaccumm leaks could be an issue, as well as a bad injector or two. I'm having trouble with mine, and with all that I've replaced, i'm leaning towards a bad injector. Hope that gives you another point to start troubleshooting, and good luck.....

I have scanned the car but it just comes out normal. The MAF worked for well over a year after it was modified and it doesn't make a difference if it is pluged in or not. I guess it could be the MAF, but i can probably convert to SD for the cost of one. I guess it could still be the problem. The whole ignition is new except for the coil and the dist. itself and i doubt the dist. is bad. There are no vacuum leaks that i can tell.

So it could be the MAF, coil or injectors. How can i figure out if it is one of these since they are all rather expensive?

Change it! If it is the least bit good, it will make some difference when plugged in. Making no difference is a very good indication that it is fried.

Also, check your gas. If you get bad gas the car will run just like you described, fire up, run for a mile or so then shut off again. To be sure I'd drain the tank and fill at least half way with good gas and some STP gas treatment.

The MAF is my next option. I think i found another one to replace it with before i purchase a new one. I am doing that this week. I already tried new gas and FI cleaner and that did not help.

If any one is wondering what the problem was it was a faulty distributer shaft. I don't know what went wrong with the old one, but a new one made the car run excellent.
