Why can't I use TPI???
I was looking through the Scoggin Dickey site and I came across this crate motor. It looks pretty cheap (not that I'm looking), and then I noticed that it says "not for fuel injected use". Is it me, or judging by the numbers given, isn't a basic. good ole l98? Same block....same heads.....right? I don't know about the cam, but why can't someone slap a TPI or a Superram...etc. on there and be set?

I often wonder that too - I'd like to see an explanation.
Some crate motors say for off-highway use only (ok yeah right)
but what is with that 'no fuel injection' disclaimer?

Well....this is strictly a guess, so don't jump me if I am wrong, but could it be one of the two things:
1) It comes with a mechanica fuel pump (ie. not enough pressure)..why you just can't buy a blockoff plate for it I wouldn't know though.
2) Maybe the cam isn't EFI friendly???
Just guesses.

"This engine is not intended for use in fuel injected applications. For high performance fuel injection engines, please see our Custom Crate Engine selection."
Doesnt say you cant use it, says its not intended to be used with FI. Also, translation:
For hi-perf FI engines, please visit the more expensive engine section!

It is mostly do to emissions. FI is no different then a carb. It introduces fuel to the engine. How the fuel is metered and delivered is controlled differently, but in the end you introduce the correct mixture of fuel and air to the cylinders. Just like a carb FI has requirements that must be met in order for it to work. Fuel pump/ wiring/ mounting/ ect. These engines not intended for FI are just the companies way of saying we did not try this combo with FI. They have not tested for emissions or quality of streetability and generally they would not use that set up themselves for fuel injection. Can you slap fuel injection on there? By all means you just need to make sure that all your equipment bolts up (IE votec heads need a special base). Just a few months ago I fuel injected an 89 lamborgini countach. For the first time the owner was able to idle around town without having to shut it off every few minutes for it to cool down and he did not have to change his clothes afterwards to get rid of the gas fumes.
Hope this helps
