If so... how hard is it, and what other Mods do you need?

right now, i got a 650 holly, and getting 4mpg. Well a TPI make a big difference?

Yes, it is very possible. Just need to make sure the intake manifold bolts line up with the heads.

In fact, the TPI is great for a 383. Why? Because 383's are torque monsters.... they put out gobs of torque and not so much HP as one might think. Well this is exactly what TPI is good at, so the two work together very well. Lots of people here have a setup like that. However, as always, it is a good idea to make sure you get a nice base (Accel, Edelbrock) and some nice runners with a ported plenum.

tpi is good for 383's... but they are choke at around 4.5k and that kills the 383's power a lot.... tpi can kill modded out 350's... i suggest a converted LT1 intake by john, because of its low price.... do a search on that one... hope it helps

From what I hear it's pretty much necessary to use a superram tpi setup, or stealthram, mini-ram
(most popular ones these three) otherwise like it's been said i think - you're 383 is gonna fall on its face at about 4500rpm. The more aggressive/better flowing intake setups are mandatory cause stock TPI just isnt an option.

Since you already have your engine, I suggest you look at your cam. If it is conserative, say 225 degrees or less, then the TPI would work great. It would make a ton of torque, and you cam would be in the correct rpm range. If you timing is higher, then the TPI just isn't going to flow enough to get the RPM's up to where you cam works best.

I tried the stock TPI on my 383. It didn't work well. I mean it was fun to drive, just no control of the rear wheels!
Think about it, a TPI intake is tuned for low end TQ. A stroker engine is good at low end TQ as well. Put the two together and without MAJOR suspension changes you will be un-controllable at the rear wheels. Too much TQ can be hard to put to the ground.

The 383 can be made with so much in fact it can afford to trade some of that for HP. Enter the short runner intakes. Like mentioned above (thanks!) a LT1 intake can be a perfect match to the stroker engine. If you must maintain a EGR valve then look towards a SuperRam.

You know guys, it might be useful to retard you base timing in order to keep the tires on the ground. The driveablity you gain from the tpi is great, this could compensate. TPI is just cool if you can pull it together! Also, lakewood makes a nasty set of traction bars that replace the rear control arms on an 82-92 f body. If you got rear discs though, you're gonna have to grind down one of the brackets on the passenger side, its not a big deal though.
