Replace fuel filter?

Hey, First I wanna say, I hope you all had a great THanksgiving . Also, Do you guys replace your fuel filter? I got an 88 IROC 350 TPI, and when i bought it had 116k on it, I've put on about 10k now. Havent had any engine problems yet but I came to a stop twice yesterday and the idle was jumping around about 100 rpm or so up and down, and while im sitting at the light its doing this. It didnt feel like it was gonna stall, and I wasnt that low on fuel, a little over a quarter of a tank. This happened both times at a stop, but there was no hesitation when it turned green. I never have a problem starting her in the morning, fires up instantly everytime. But I was thinking of stuff that i've havent replaced and the fuel filter is one of them. So I was curious what you guys think may have been going on, and how big a deal is a fuel filter that probably hasnt ever been replaced. Thanks!

fuel filters are pretty easy to replace. just jack up the rear of the car pretty good so u can fit under it. the fuel filter is in front of the axle.. maybe 2\3 of the way back from the front of the car? its not hard to find though.. make sure u have the right sized wrenches cause the lines are gonna be on pretty tight. and make sure u relieve the fuel pressure too. and have some towels ready cause its gonna drip alot. i sprayed some penetrating lube on it to help break the lines loose easier.. its fairly easy if u can get enough leverage under the car.. good luck!

Thanks Do fuel filters normally go? Are they like other filters that need to be replaced often? What kind of problems do they create? Thanks!

They are cake to change. After a while they can get clogged up, much like any other filter.

A clogged filter can cause surging, poor idling, etc.
