Anyone using F.A.S.T. engine management?

I am investigating the Accel DFI VIII or the F.A.S.T. system.

Is the FAST system and easy or moderately easy install? Also, how easy is the PC screens to tune it?

I may skip burning a PROM chip and go straight to one of these.

Just an opinion, but unless you plan some pretty radical engine mods, I would use your stock engine management and learn to tweak your own proms. Take a look at some of the excellent results guys on this board have gotten from doing their own proms, with minimal investment in cashola.

The FAST system is *very* expensive, and the only way to fly once you're into a system like that which costs some heavy bread is to go for the wide-band 02 option. The Accel Gen 7 DFI is very user friendly, and much less costly than the FAST system, but both are still $$.

Either way, those are some pricey systems and unless you plan to build one seriously fast street car, your $ might be better spent on heads, intake, cam and so on, and a DIY custom prom.

Just my .02

I can see where you're coming from asking about the FAST or Acell systems, Formul8. To me it seems like learning to burn chips is such a time consuming process. Burn one, go test it for a while... come back and burn another one... test it again...etc, etc... I've been very interested in the Acell or FAST system, but I've never seen one in person. Yes, they are a lot of money, but if somebody has the $$$ then why shouldn't they use it to make there life a little easier.

Tom/Colt,

I do plan on going farther with the motor down the road, so I guess the investment on a DFI or FAST system now might be worth it.

I won't change the heads or the cam until the motor goes. I am still trying to get the car to go as fast as possible on the stock stuff.

Yep, I know you're trying to go fast on the stock heads and cam, and I think the DFI would help alot. Sure, burning your own chips is cheaper, but I think there is a long learning curve involved, unless someone can convince me otherwise.

I think this place has a lot of knowledge on the FAST system. If you get a chance to check out one of the DFI systems, give me a call. I'd like to take a look too.

I use the speed pro (what it was called before F.A.S.T.) dylan.

It was the best $2000 i ever spent on my car but then again, i had a lot of custom modifications too so i was in a different boat than you are now.

Unless you plan some major heads/cam/supercharger upgrade it is probably not going to be worth $2000 to you
