1/4 mile questions
1/4 mile questions
I have been checking out other peoples times and I have a question or two. I have seen times that were slower than mine but higher mph. I can understand a mph or 2 but from what I gather my 1/4 mph seems slow. What is going on?? Is this because of the 2:77s?I am somewhat confused..My time slip reads as follows..60'=2.087......330'=5.995.......1/8=9.210 @ 76.49 mph.......1000'=11.990......1/4=14.30 @ 95.72 mph

MPH is an indicator of HP. Good ET's are made by using the most of the power you have (getting it to the ground by getting traction) and having more TQ also helps with ET b/c it gets the car moving. I would say you have a great ET for both your mods and MPH. My car ran 14.8-ish with about the same level of mods you have with the same 2.77's.

You also have to make sure you're comparing
the same type of transmission. Just as the
manual trans will have higher dyno #s, they
have higher trap speeds. But autos usually
do better getting out of the hole and will show
lower dyno #s because of the tranny losses..
Its very common to see stick cars with alot
higher speeds, but with the same ET as an
autocar..
I just pulled these from my club's timeslip page:
60' (1/8) 1/4
2.060 (7.812 97.21) 11.815 124.83
1.646 (7.516 90.81) 11.833 114.30
1.970 (0.000 95.46) 11.870 123.25
(mine is the automatic in the middle of these two
6-speeds..)
Note the 60' times and the 1/4-mile MPH..

BuckeyeROC, I guess my wore out engine is a little loose!!LOL Maybe when she gets 200,000 miles she will be running 14.0s LMAO. Personally I dont think my car is anything special or extraordinarily fast but I have had a few fellow 3rd gen guys and some mustang guys come over (at the track)and ask me what mods I have. Some of them swear I am lying when I tell them what little I have done and they laugh and walk away when I tell them the engine is original and untouched with that many miles.Kind of makes me scared to rebuild it!! LOL Making her tight again might hurt my times! I have a set of vortec heads and I am dying to put them on but with the cost of a $400 intake and all the miles I would hate to put the heads on and the engine let go. I may be getting off topic here but what do you (or anybody) suggest? The engine still holds 30 lbs of oil pressure at idle (hot) and doesnt burn any oil other than an occasional puff at startup which I am sure is valve seals. I have the heads and roller rockers on hand. All I need to buy is the intake and gaskets to put all this stuff on. Do you think I should wait another year until I can afford to rebuild the engine or should I just go for it and put the heads on!? I do depend on my car and drive it everyday. ( based on the milage I guess that is a given huh?)
