mother@#(&^&^ not again

i have an 89 gta 350 tpi and i was driving and then it just started kinda like slowing down i give it more gas and it doesnt accelerate so i give it more then it just takes off loud and fast.service light turns on so i pull over and put it in park and the light goes away and doesnt come back. the next day i check all the sensors and same prob but now it over heats.i figure blown head gaskets. i spend 3-5 weeks(i did blow head gaskets) getting heads rebuilt (had a bent valve and weak springs) i also put new pushrods cuz old ones were bent bad and a new timing chain. i inspected the lifters no damage put every thing back together but put a adj. fuel reg and port plenum. i go to take it out and the same prob again what the hell can be wrong?i spent lots of money and time for nothing what could it be?

I understand your frusturation, and I cannot begin to help as my experience falls far short of your predicament.
However I'd like to be a consoling voice and tell you you did not spend money for nothing...

New pushrods, you found problems with your heads, and you ported the plenum and threw in an AFPR - this is all good stuff!
The best of luck isolating the trouble beast.

The computer will still store the code(s) even if the SES light goes out unless you disconnect the battery

Were the heads straight and milled before you put them back on?
Did you find out what caused the first set of gaskets to go? Any rings around the cylinders broken? How many pushrods were bent and how bad? Is there water in the oil?

i had the heads checked for straightness and for cracks. had bent pushrods on the same side as blown gasket bent pretty bad no water in oil but when i checked for water it was almost gone no foam in it.

What is your engine temp? You said you changed the timing chain, did you re-install it with the dot lined up, and when you took the old one off, was it out of alignment, like if it had moved a tooth?

What is your inital timing at?

Never, ever use old valve train components with new ones. New lifters cost so little it isn't even funny, you should have replaced them.

his car is an 89, so I assume they are roller lifters, which are OK to reuse if they are inspected first. If they are flat tappet lifters, then they should never be reused.

Dude, that definitely sounds like an ignition problem to me. Check/replace your ignition module and ignition coil. Make sure all plugs are firing!

Had a similar problem. Turned out it was a fuse not activating my electric fan, causing massive overheating while idling/traffic/drive thru...Somethin minor like that.
