87 MAF TPI --> 91 SD harness?

Alright, I have some swapping questions. I have a '87 TPI setup I am pulling from a car and swapping into a '91 TBI car. I don't want to use the '87 TPI harness as it is quite butchered. Additionally, I figured I might as well convert to speed density. So if I use a SD harness, can I get it to work w/ the '87 TPI setup?

The swap is possible. There are only minor differences, one being no MAF sensor, but, instead, you have the MAP. Also, the 87 has the cold start injector, that went away in 89.

You can use the SD harness, but you will also require the SD computer. The cold start injector will not be used, neither will the MAF. You will want to pick up the MAP, and bracket, and vacuum hoses from the donor car as well.

There is probably more to it than just what is mentioned here, however, the swap is pretty straight-forward.

Have fun.

Hey Milt..what do you want for the left overs from the 87 TPI harness?? I could use some of the plugs and stuff.
As for the swap. It's been done. Do a search on "MAF to SD" , you should be able to find all the info you need. Let me know.

Thanks Keiran

If that's the case, then yeah, the SD harness will work fine, in fact that's the easiest thing to do because the speed density cars had a different pin configuration for the ecm.

since the 91 will have the correct vehical speed sensor for SD. All you will need is a knock sensor from a 90 to 92 TPI car and a MAP sensor from like any general motors product that is non turbo. And don't forget the 1227730 ECM used in
1987 2.0 L4 TBI “1” LL8
1988 2.0 L4 TBI “1” LL8 (early)
1987-89 2.8 V6 PFI “W” LB6 (exc. “W” body)
1988-94 3.1 V6 PFI “T” LH0 (exc. “W” body)
1990-92 5.0 V8 TPI “F” LB9
1990-92 5.7 V8 TPI “8” L98 (“F” body)

Where it says (exc. "W" body)...Does that mean excluding the "w" body or excellent choice?????

I already have a MAP from the origianl engine in my Monte SS. Just need to get the plugs and the ECM from the wreckers. Now as for the speed sensor...Does my 85 Monte SS already have the right setup??? THe ECM and TPI engine I have is a 89. My Monte had the cable to the speedo and uses a buffer from there to the ECM.

Thanks
Keiran
