TPI on a ZZ4??

Next year i plan on buying a crate engine. I was looking at the Fastburn 385 ( a little pricey for me ) or the ZZ4 which is what im leaning to.. (both from scroggin dickey) I am struggling between going carb or going TPI. Here are the reasons.

TPI - I live in michigan, weather is always changing. I dont want to mess with carb tuning. So TPI owuld be nice. It also yealds some nice low end performance. But, It is rather expensive and i've heard that it has limitations of about 5000 rpm.

Carb - would only be nice because of no limitation.. I dont want to have to tune it all the time though. Also I dont have to reprogram anything if i bolt on something new.

Can someone explain to me a little more about TPI. I would like to use it, even though it is expensive. Is there a way to get past that 5k rpm barrier? What type of setup is needed? thanks for any help.

Try a search, people have done it, recently to be exact! To put a stock tpi on a zz4 motor which was meant for a carb, you will hurt the power a bit. Pretty much you would have to get an aftermarket system like the holley stealth ram to get over that rpm barrier. The stock unit will not really do it. good luck

Yeah the stock TPI set up will hurt the power output of the ZZ4.

The ZZ4 makes power up around 5500 and the stock TPI is dead at 4500.

From all that I have read here using after market intake and runners works good.

I just picked up my ZZ4 today and hope to have it running by the end of February, I still need money for the T-56.

You should read this post.

This is what I am putting on the motor.
Accel SuperRam.

I was thinkin' of a ZZ4 swap once my 305 goes out..

Heard there were some problems with bolting a stock TPI unit to the ZZ4 crate, but I'm pretty sure it can be done without much hassle (a few guys here have done it)..

Like it was said, stock TPI units run outta muscle around 4500 - 5000 RPMS.. so bear that in mind, you may wanna go the extra mile and slap on a hi-flo baseplate and runners..

Yeah, I'm looking at going that direction too. I want to get rid of my 305, and i was going to get a zz4 shortblock and build the motor. Here's what my setup will be like:
-zz4 short block
-fastburn cylinder heads
-LT4 Hot Cam
-Edelbrock highflow baseplate (portmatched and siamesed 2" in)
-SLP Siamese runners (fully siamesed and ported)
-Fully Ported Plenum
-52 mm TB

Already have the manifold and runners just not ported. Already have the cam too. Also will be putting these on to complete my setup, of wich i already have:
-SLP 1-3/4" headers
-3" cat
-Borla Catback

This is just to give ideas. Remember that if you are to go the fastburn direction, these heads have two bolt patterns; vortec style (4 bolts) and regular style (6 bolts), although i'm not sure if the two center bolt holes are tapped at 90 degrees to the intake surface, or at an angle, like the stock tpi manifolds. Have fun and enjoy!!!
