TPI on an 87-94 350?? HELP

This isn't 100% F-Body related but I know this is the best source for the information I'm looking for.

My friend and I just completed putting an 87-94 350ci V8 in his '82 GMC Jimmy 4x4. His use for the vehicle calls for fuel injection. I suggested TPI for the engine and I'm looking for yay's, nay's, whatever.

I'm assuming that since this V8 has a carb manifold on it, that the bolt pattern for the TPI intake manifold should be the same; Correct?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but here's what I believe we'll need:

- Complete TPI from an 87-92 setup - I'm assuming a complete system from the manifold to the plenum. (I guess I could use an 85-86, but I'd have to get different injectors and ECU for the 350, correct?).
- ECU from compatible setup
- Wiring harness
- Exhaust fabbed for O² sensor

Now this is just the bare bones minimum for the process, but what else would need to be obtained for this buildup?

Has anyone else done this on another carbed V8 before?

ANY help would be greatly appreciated. My friend and I are extremely mechanically inclined, but I am just looking more or less to see if this would be practical or feasible.

Thanks in advance.

Are the bolts on the heads located in the center of the valve covers?

-edit-

The 85-86 TPI will not fit the 87 motors. They changed the head's bolt pattern and I think the angle of the intake.

The valve covers have the bolts on the outter edges, not the inner ones.

AFAIK, its not a 87-95 engine. At least the heads are not. Then the 85-86 TPI will fit, the 87-92 will not.

If that's the case, would I just need an 85-86 setup w/350 injectors?

let me get a crack at it, ok.. you are going to need 22# injectors, 350 knock sensor, and also a chip.. are you gunna run SD or MAF? MAF were on 85-89 cars, but SD is cleaner looking, and you dont have to get a $300 sensor when it busts.. you also probably will need a custom chip made, to get the most out of the set up... i dont understand why you said you had a 350 from 87 up? how did you know you had that year block? the TPI conversion has been done a million times... the search is down so no one can come in here and start yelling... thats all i can give ya right now...

Thanks for the info. The reasons we were thinking that the engine was/is an 87+ is because of the one peice rear main seal, smaller diameter of the flywheel bolt pattern (the one thats in it right now is for a 1994 350) and also because the previous owner "said" it had Vortec heads, which it does not.

We're, at this point, not sure what year it is.

Is the intake off? Look in the valley (for lack of a better term at the moment) and see if the area above the cam is threaded for 3 bolts. That would mean its a roller engine.

You can put pre 86 heads on them (my friend did) but it would mean you would need a different intake.
