Just wondering if there is a step-by-step flow chart type of information for troubleshooting a TPI.. ( 1991 T/A )

 

Yup. Get yourself a Helm's manual for your year car. It has pages and pages of flowcharts, design application and explanation, and troubleshooting. If you can't find a good deal on it or can't shell out the bucks for one, get a hold of TPI Swapper's Guide. It has the same flowcharts printed in it, but for about $16.

 

Another book called How to Tune and Modify Chevrolet Fuel Injection by Ben Watson has some good flow charts and troubleshooting tips.

 

Yeah, the helm's manual would be a good start. Chilton's stole some of 'em too for some codes. Other than that, if the search wasn't down you could find pretty much anything here.
You do realize that the best thing to have is going to be a laptop with some kind of interface software on it. Things get alot easier if you know exactly what the computer is thinking.

 

well, the helms is too much in this case ( i'm helping out a friend ), and i hate to lay out the cash for an interface cable, but let me run this by ya...

'91 T/A, 305 TPI, 5 speed, 110,000 1 owner miles.

new: fuel pump, fuel filter, plugs, wires, dist. cap, & o2 sensor..

car starts right up, idles good, runs good for a while, then starts laying down. won't take gas from a stop and just generally runs like crap. i have not actually started in on my troubleshooting yet, as i am unfamiliar with the FI cars and am trying to do a little homework first. the fuel pressure regulator is original as are the injectors, throttle position sensor, and distributor internals. check engine light does not come on.

where would you start?

 

Sounds almost like it gets worse once it warms up?

Check the CTS with a voltmeter and the chart you can find all over the place here to make sure it's still reading right.

Also, don't discount parts just because they're new. I drove myself nuts for two weeks because I got two ****ty starter solenoids in a row and I was just outright ignoring them because they were new.

 

I once had a similar problem with my honda, once warmed up it would run very poorly and eventually stall and not start until it cooled off. It turned out to be the coil.

Do a compression test on it once warmed up to make sure the cylinders are sealing properly.
