Took off all smog, how long will cat last?

My smog pump hasnt been hooked up for quite some time and i replaced the radiator last night and while i was at it removed the smog pump and all related parts to it.I have ALOT more room. Also took off the A/C since it was burnt when i got it.Anyway i have heard tha the cat will melt or break apart inside eventually causing it to get stopped up.Does that happen gradually or within a few weeks?

why are you worried about it? If you took off everything else, the cat ain't gunna make a big difference.

Some cats have an air tube others don't. I've never had a car with a smog pump, but all have had a cat, and some of the cats the air tube is plugged, others don't have the tube on them at all. Smog pump or no smog pump, it makes no difference to the cat. The air tube may make the cat work better is all.

I read on here somewhere that the cat will clog up. Don't remember what kind of timeframe you're looking at. I too have removed everything except the cats. I think mine are starting to clog. Getting slower sucks.

The whole cats clogging from no emissions is just an old wives tale. There have been people who removed it all and in a short time the cats clogged up, so they assumed it was from the emissions deleting. By comparison, there are tons more who [i]didn't[i] have a problem. It would be like somebody who repalced the water pump and a week later the tranny die. So is it safe to say that replacing your water pump will cause your tranny to die???? Think of all the cars out there that have converters but no SMOG PUMP from the factory. Thats most cars and alot of trucks. Look at the LT1s with the electric air pump. GM had so many problems with those pumps, that they found out that they didn't really need them to pass emissions anyhow, so they instructed dealers on how to disable them and update the emissions label to show it was deleted. You'll be just fine.
