Cam for stock motor ??
Ok my car just has slp 1 3/4 headers random tech cats, flowmaster cat back, and little things. Motor hasn't been touched it has 56,XXX miles. I would like 2 get an edelbrock intake manifold and slp runners. What is a good cam to get for my car? and in what order should i get the manifold/ runners/ cam ??

im really partial to the hot cam and some 1.6 rockers, i would get that cam. get all the stuff at once because there is no need to take it all off twice. also port the crap out of your upper plenum, siamese the top of the runners, and port the upper to match that. it would also be a good idea to port your heads while your in there...........IMO
IF this is a daily driver, and the only mods you'll have will be the Edelbrock TPI intake, SLP runners, and headers / exhaust, you really can't go wrong with the ZZ4 cam.
Alot of people will tell you it's too mild of a cam, but your RPM ceiling is not going to work with a bigger cam... those bigger cams like to make their power on the top end. The ZZ4 grind will make good HP in the mid range where you can USE it, and will make awesome torque down low and mid range, where you can FEEL it everytime you drive it.
Just my 2 cents, but on almost every board I frequent, people like to overcam an engine way too many times...
One guy I know ran LOW 13's high 12's with a LTR setup, ported L98 alum heads and the ZZ4 cam...
This ASSUMES you're going to tune it with a custom PROM, as a speed density system will really need to be tuned to run at it's PEAK....even in stock form, much less with pretty major bolt ons.
Just my 2 cents.

I totally agree with ctandc, I think many people overcam their cars and make alot less useable power than they think. If you use the hotcam without getting better heads it would be a complete waste of money. I think the ZZ4 is a great cam for the $125.00 or less they can be had for on ebay. I also think with the ZZ4 cam or something similar, you would benefit from head porting. It almost seems useless to upgrade your cam for increased powerband unless you are going to at least get and install the edelbrock or similar base at the same time. Runners are very easy to change and could be done at a later time.
Just my thoughts!

I just got the XE268H comp cam for my car has .510 int and .520 exh lift with the big block kit-1.7RR and springs etc I noticed a pretty big difference when I did that, car pulls a lot stronger all the way up to 5K sometimes it idles a little rough but once you get going it's pretty strong I have a 89 formula 350 TPI with 1 5/8" edelbrock headers I was also going to get the slp runners when I get the $$$- they will help the engine breathe better above 4500 when the stock runners start to restrict the airflow and if you add that to the hiflow intake manifold im guessin it would rev up closer to 6K before choking .so anyways if you have the intake all done up I would recomend a cam that will give you more mid to high-end power 'cause our cars already have a s*** load of low to mid range torque you wouldnt really miss it that much (I still spin the tires in 2nd
) but the high-end power really comes in handy especially at the top of 3rd gear on the hiway where those imports tend to start catching up

go with the tpis zz-9 cam. Although a bit pricey, it is absolutely unbelievable. knocked a full second off of a 91 z-28 350 in the quarter mile with just headers and an exhaust. Well worth the money. It also totally shatters the acceleration wall you hit at 4800 rpm with the stock cam. pulls hard all the way to 5500!

Yes. It is recommended for a street/strip car making serious horsepower. I cant even hardly tell a difference between the way it and my stock cammed 350 idles.

i should run ok with the stock chip. But since its a speed density system, you really need a custom chip to get all the power and good driveability
