building 383 TPI

Hey guys, I'm getting ready to rebuild my 350 TPI in my 91 Z28 (with the help of mechanic buddys). I'm looking at getting a stroker kit for rebuilding it, I don't want to go any bigger than a 383. Does anyone know where to get a good stroker kit for my engine?

What would be some good heads to put on there, I was thinking about L98 aluminum heads and porting them. I'll get some better long tube runners.

Other thing is, I want to keep the stock TPI setup and I was wondering a few things about it. I've seen a lot of guys dyno different from each other using this setup.

I got my mechanic to do all the stuff, what I want to know is where is the best place really to buy a good stroker kit for my engine. If anyone has some advice on whats a good 383 TPI let me know. Thanks guys for all the help.

I hope you plan to get an aftermarket base as well! The stock base will suffocate that 383. You need to at least port the upper plenum and get a better base, as well as the runners which you mentioned.

I was looking at slp runners, maybe edlebrock intake manifold, L98 aluminum heads ported and polished (what would be some other good heads?) and what's a good cam for this setup. Other places for a good 383 stroker kit.

Would the vortec heads from scoggin dickey be good with their intake manifold.

I want the car to be a good daily driver, but also be plenty fast.

dude for the price of L98 heads you can buy some prolightnings and get em ported. they are soooooo cheap, and flow very well, the flow numbers are almost identical to some AFR 195's.if fact, on dyno 2000 the pro lighnings make more power than AFR 195''s. L98 heads are junk, they suck. period they are good on a stock motor, but if your gonna run a big cam, they will hold you back. and as far as an intake goes, yes the scoggin dickey/vortec combo is good. but im partial to an LT1 intake for two reasons.....first is the price. lt1 intake and some pro lightnings are way cheaper than the scoggin dickey setup. and two.. LTR designs dont rev high enough to suit me. you can run steeper rear gears when you dont choke off your power at 5500 rpm. if you set the two engines up identical except for the intake and heads, run the car with appropriate gears for the combos, then the lt1 intake/pro lightnings will be a lot faster for less money.........just my opinion. and all this is reflected when i set em up in dyno 2000, and drag 2000

I definately agree to stay away from the L98s when there are some many better heads out there. AFR is where I am at. I have heard only good things about PRO Lightning, Trick Flow and Canfield. Check out all of those.

As for the TPI combo use a better breathing base and port it OUT. Get some bigger runners and port them OUT. You can use a pretty decent cam in the engine with some tuning. Go with 218/228 @.050, and .510/.550 lift, or something around there. If you look at the cams the guys run on this site you will see what works. If you decide on the LT1 intake, then more camshaft to ya.

Good Luck, 383s sure are fun.
